A Relaxing Getaway in Klong Muang, Krabi

Klong Muang in Krabi is a hidden gem for those seeking a serene and relaxing vacation. With its pristine beaches, luxurious accommodations, delightful dining and rejuvenating massages, Klong Muang offers a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. Here’s a glimpse into my peaceful retreat in this idyllic paradise with my family.

1. Stroll and swim at Klong Muang Beach

Klong Muang Beach is a haven of peacefulness, a place where time seems to slow down and the stresses of everyday life melt away. The beach boasts soft, powdery white sand that feels like silk beneath your feet, inviting you to take a leisurely stroll along its picturesque shoreline. As you walk, you can hear the gentle lapping of waves against the shore, creating a soothing soundtrack that calms the mind and rejuvenates the spirit.

The beach makes it an ideal spot for families with toddlers and senior citizens like ours. Children can splash around while older family members can wade in and enjoy the refreshing ocean. The beachfront is dotted with charming cafes, each offering a unique ambience and a delightful selection of refreshments. Whether you are building sandcastles with your little one (my kid could play in the sand for hours!), enjoying a peaceful moment with your parents, or simply soaking up the sun with a good book, the serenity and beauty of Klong Muang Beach create a perfect setting for relaxation.

1. Stay at The Pelican Residence & Suites

Our stay at The Pelican Residence & Suites was nothing short of spectacular. From the moment we stepped into the 2-bedroom Suite, we knew we were in for a treat. The suite is incredibly spacious, tastefully furnished and designed to maximise comfort and luxury. Large windows and sliding doors allow natural light to flood the rooms, creating a bright and airy atmosphere that instantly puts you at ease.

One of the most delightful features of this suite is the private pool. To us, there’s something magical about having your own secluded spot to swim, relax and enjoy the stunning scenery. Whether it’s an early morning dip to start the day or a late-night swim under the stars, the private pool provides a unique and unforgettable experience. The suite’s ample space is perfect for families, allowing everyone to unwind and enjoy their vacation without feeling cramped. This luxurious accommodation truly elevated my stay in Klong Muang, providing the perfect blend of comfort, privacy and breathtaking views.

1. Dinner at Baan Tha Ley

For dinner, Baan Tha Ley was an absolute culinary delight. The restaurant is just 2 minutes walking distance from our hotel. It exudes an inviting vibe with a lovely view of the ocean that adds to the dining experience. 

The menu at Baan Tha Ley is a testament to the richness and diversity of Thai cuisine. We started with the grilled beef with spicy salad, a dish that perfectly balances the heat of the spices with the savoury, tender beef. The spaghetti with green curry was a delightful fusion dish, combining the comforting familiarity of pasta with the bold, aromatic flavours of green curry. It was a unique and delicious surprise. The salted fish fried rice was another highlight, with its rich, umami flavours and perfectly cooked rice. 

We had a wonderful spread of other Thai dishes too and complemented our meal with various beverages such as the Coconut Coffee, a refreshing and unique beverage that combines the rich, creamy taste of coconut with the robust flavour of coffee. I highly recommend this restaurant to those who visit Klong Muang!

1. Lunch at The Boat Coffee by The Nine Thipthara Resort

This place quickly became our favourite spot for lunch. The restaurant’s laid-back vibe and friendly staff made it a pleasant place to enjoy a meal. The interior is charmingly rustic, with wooden furniture and colourful decor that give it a warm, welcoming feel. Located at the beach where you can feel the sand underneath, this place creates a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere.

The menu features a variety of classic Thai dishes, each prepared with care and attention to detail. The Tom Yum soup was bursting with flavour, its tangy and spicy broth filled with fresh shrimp, mushrooms and fragrant herbs. It was a comforting and satisfying dish that warmed me from the inside out. The Thai Fish Cakes were perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside served with a delicious dipping sauce that added a burst of flavour.

The Cashew Chicken was another standout dish, with tender pieces of chicken stir-fried with crunchy cashews and vegetables in a savoury sauce. To wash it all down, we thoroughly enjoyed our Thai Iced Tea and Thai Iced Coffee. The cafe’s casual atmosphere and delicious food made it a great place to relax and recharge in the middle of the day!

1. Massage at BREEZE 

The highlight of my days in Klong Muang was undoubtedly BREEZE Beach Massage, located near the Dusit Thani Resort. The experience of receiving a massage by the beach, with the sound of waves gently crashing and the sight of the sun setting over the horizon, was nothing short of magical. The combination of skilled therapists, the serene environment and the natural beauty of the beach created an atmosphere of pure bliss.

I opted for the aromatherapy massage, a gentle and soothing treatment that uses essential oils to promote relaxation and well-being. The therapist was highly skilled, ensuring that every knot and muscle ache was carefully attended to. The aromatic scents combined with the rhythmic massage strokes created a deeply calming experience that left me feeling completely refreshed and rejuvenated. Despite the high-quality service, the prices at BREEZE are very affordable, making it accessible for everyone to enjoy a bit of pampering.

Klong Muang is home to many other excellent massage places as well, such as Sunset Massage and Orchid Massage, where you certainly have to try for a rejuvenating experience!

Just a short 20-minute GRAB car ride or a scenic scooter journey from Klong Muang, a visit to Ao Nang is a must. Ao Nang is the bustling centre of Krabi’s nightlife and activities. The vibrant Ao Nang Night Market is a treasure trove of local crafts, delicious street food and lively entertainment. It’s the perfect place to immerse yourself in the local culture and pick up some unique souvenirs.

Ao Nang is also home to a variety of shopping areas, where you can find everything from trendy boutiques to traditional Thai markets. For adventure seekers, Ao Nang serves as the gateway to several beautiful islands and beaches. From here, you can easily catch a boat to the iconic Koh Phi Phi, famous for its stunning cliffs, crystal-clear waters and vibrant marine life. Railay Beach, another popular destination, is known for its dramatic limestone formations and pristine sandy shores. Both of these locations are perfect for a day trip, offering opportunities for snorkelling, rock climbing and simply soaking up the sun.

The beauty of Ao Nang is its accessibility from Klong Muang, allowing you to enjoy the best of both worlds – the peaceful tranquillity of Klong Muang and the vibrant energy of Ao Nang. Whether you are exploring the bustling streets, shopping for local treasures or embarking on an island-hopping adventure, Ao Nang adds an exciting dimension to your relaxing getaway.
